Join the Immersive Arts team at Queens Quay in Belfast for an ‘Inspiration Day’ of the new Immersive Arts programme.

Are you an artist interested in the potential of using technology to immerse audiences in your work?

Join a day-long workshop that will demystify immersive arts, illuminate how you can harness technology for your creative practice and get hands on with a range of immersive experiences. 

What is Immersive Arts?

Immersive Arts is a new 3-year UK wide project aimed at breaking down the barriers for artists of all backgrounds to create and engage with immersive technologies, through an inclusive and accessible programme of funding, training, research and events.

From October 2024, Immersive Arts will be offering artists in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland opportunities to access a community of peers, training, mentoring and vital funds.

Who is this Inspiration Day for?

We invite artists from all backgrounds, artforms and stages of art career to attend. The workshops are designed to be a stepping off point for artists to find out about how immersive could influence their creative practice, and how to apply for funding from the Immersive Arts programme to explore further.

If you are someone who is not already working in immersive technologies then this event is for you!

Booking

 

This event is entry level and not suitable for those already working in or well versed in immersive artforms. These workshops have limited capacity, so if you’re an artist who’s already using creative technologies in your work, or who’s have tried lots of immersive experiences before, we are running shorter online Information Sessions about the funding that you will find more suitable.

A light vegetarian lunch will be provided.

​​Tom is an award winning digital producer, his work has been shown at The Barbican, BBC, Ars Electronica, SXSW and MoMA. Tom has curated programmes of digital art for international festivals including CPH:DOX, Sheffield Doc/Fest, The International Film Festival of India, Silbersalz Science and Media Festival, Bergen International Film Festival and the Adelaide Fringe.

Colm O’Donnell

Colm O’Donnell (he/him)

Producer for Northern Ireland

Colm has 15+ years’ experience producing arts programmes in Northern Ireland. He is Creative Director and co-founder of Stendhal Festival. With a background in architecture, he blends digital design, 3D modelling, animation, and web design with storytelling and marketing. He also served on the board of ArtAbyss, supporting young people through the arts.

Ruth McCullough

Based at Watershed, Bristol

Ruth is a creative director and producer specialising in art, technology, and sustainability. 

From 2009- 2023, she was Producer then Director of Abandon Normal Devices (AND), leading the UK’s only roaming digital biennial and collaborations with artists such as Marshmallow Laser Feast, Matthew Plummer Fernandez, Daito Manabe, Ubermorgen, Eva & Franco Mattes and Studio Roosegaarde.

Verity McIntosh

Director and Principal Investigator (she/her)

Immersive Arts

Verity works with artists, technologists, researchers, and policymakers who are interested in immersive tech and its impact on society. As an Associate Professor at UWE Bristol, Verity founded one of Europe’s first XR master’s programmes and co-founded Bristol VR Lab. Her research focuses on inclusive design, XR ethics, and human rights in virtual environments.
