Charged Encounter is an XR experience and immersive theatre show where audiences are invited to navigate through both real and fantastical scenes, confronting their own identities, biases, and participation.

Highlighting the complexities of living in the UK as a marginalised person today, CE act as a playful bridge to evoke understandings of perception, politics, intimacy, and reality; a story of resilience, reclamation, and belonging.

Aims of the project

This project is as much about co-authorship and accessibility as technological innovation; building bridges between formats to expand representation and create spaces of solidarity, excitement, intimacy reimagining modalities of storytelling.

The work exists in two outputs linked by a shared script, score, and digital assets, which together form overarching narratives. In VR, audiences embody avatars as they navigate exploratory scenes, make choices, engage in gameplay, and travel through dreamlike portals and hostile city streets. Expanding to multi-level, multi-path, voice-narrated, character-driven, and enhanced interactive roaming environments that mirror and reimagine the contemporary socio-political landscape. Offering agency, wider accessibility, personalisation and intimate interactions.

Players unlock backstories through integrated 360° music videos. The live performance repurposes VR assets into a collective, multi-sensory space that merges theatre, club, and game environments. Using TouchDesigner , projection, laser mapping, and haptic sound, audiences receive AR prompts that co-create responsive visuals, transforming spectatorship into a collaborative experience. Rooted in first-person storytelling, shaped by many voices, Exposing the fragility of safety and the blessings of transformation.
