These Stories We Tell
The These Stories We Tell project is an original dance theatre performance and a therapeutic intervention.
Using the latest ideas from somatic psychotherapy, combined with creative storytelling, we have developed a new way to draw out our experiences to create meaningful dance.
The performance follows three real-life stories as they constantly cross from the real world to the land of stories. Mountains appear from school desks, forests from chairs, reality and the stories blur.
Creative, enthralling, thought-provoking, These Stories We Tell will resonate with everyone who has experienced challenges in their life.

Aims of the project
This funding will allow us to explore new ways to help us make sense of the world through dance.
We are interested in the way we can use immersive technologies, especially motion capture, animation and projection to capture feelings and sensations with the aim of deepening the kinaesthetic connection between our performers and the audience.
We are looking to create a fully enclosed, accessible pop-up dance-theatre experience taking our work to small, local venues, removing barriers to experiencing dance and immersive theatre in a live performance.
Meet the artists
Paul Golz
Lead artist

Dr. Paul Golz, the Artistic Director of Riverside Dance Company, is a testament to resilience and creativity. As an autistic and neurodiverse choreographer, Paul’s journey is a story of overcoming obstacles. As a survivor of childhood abuse and trauma, he found joy and healing through choreography and movement, using dance as a medium to process his experiences and find meaning in his journey.
Paul aims to offer others the same opportunity that he had, to use dance to understand and make change.
Charlotte Cainey
Charlotte Cainey, Artistic Producer of Riverside Dance Company, began her journey as a senior associate with The Royal Ballet School and The National Youth Ballet before continuing full-time training at Northern Ballet School and The Urdang Academy. She has performed professionally and choreographed for both stage and film. Charlotte has taught and worked in diverse settings, from primary education to Universities, from CAT programmes to dance and theatre schools, developing syllabi and delivering workshops.
Charlotte’s diverse role as a performer, choreographer and creative producer, allows her to combine her passion for dance, storytelling, and education.
Zailee Beer
Zailee Beer is a dancer, choreographer and teacher with a background as a resident choreographer and deputy principal for a theatre school. She joined Riverside Dance under their graduate programme, quickly rising to become the assistant choreographer. Her deep understanding of storytelling through dance helps the artistic team realise their vision.
Zailee’s teaching experience means she leads on much of Riverside’s outreach work delivering high quality workshops across the region.
