Sonic Obscura
Exploring the use of spacial audio inside a pinhole camera obscura to enhance interactive experiences.
As a photographic artist I use pinhole cameras as a tool for close study of the natural world. I also construct pinhole camera obscura - spaces that people can go into to experience directly the magic of analogue projected imagery which is formed only by light passing through a tiny (pin) hole.

Aims of the project
I wish to explore how spatial audio can combine/enhance/augment the analogue projected imagery inside a camera obscura? How can audio cues or responses facilitate greater engagement with analogue projected images through multi-sensory interactions?
I see great value in people interacting with my work beyond viewing a series of images in a gallery or online. For example when manipulating analogue projections by touching and moving a fabric screen inside my obscura people can make the artwork their own. As an intentionally analogue photographer using basic pinhole cameras I am not drawn to the use of technology for technology’s sake. However I see the use of audio as a non intrusive way to use technology to enhance the interactive elements of work.
