I'm undertaking research & development towards the creation of interactive, meditative music experiences for mobile devices, to be situated in green spaces across Belfast. I will explore how spatial audio and augmented reality can be integrated to create adaptive, nature-infused soundscapes that invite interaction between the listener and their local environment.

I will explore how spatial audio and augmented reality can be integrated to create adaptive, nature-infused soundscapes that invite interaction between the listener and their local environment.

Aims of the project

The work will combine ambient composition, sound therapy techniques, and environmental recordings to create adaptable soundscapes, which will be easily accessible via smartphone. My aim is to explore how immersive audio can deepen people’s connection with nature while making the restorative benefits of music more widely accessible. I want to test how technology can act as a bridge into public spaces and more mindful engagement with the local environment.

This project will allow me to reconcile two strands of my practice – my ‘Inverse Field’ explorations of ambient music in natural environments, and my interactive sound design work for therapeutic applications – while pushing my skills further into immersive technologies. Through this exploratory process, I hope to lay the groundwork for participatory sound art that promotes wellbeing, accessibility, and a renewed appreciation for nature.
