The Space Between
The Space Between expands my photography practice into immersive media, using VR and AR to transform experiences of mental wellbeing struggles into interactive, multi-sensory environments.
This project is an opportunity to research how immersive technologies can deepen empathy and connection, while ensuring accessibility and inclusivity are embedded from the outset. It invites audiences to step inside emotional landscapes, fostering empathy, connection, and deeper understanding.

Aims of the project
The Space Between is a research and development project that expands my photography-based practice into immersive media. Building on my use of visual metaphor to explore mental wellbeing struggles and emotional experience, I will develop interactive environments using VR and AR that invite audiences to step inside the work rather than observe it from a distance. The project focuses on translating internal emotional states into tangible, spatial, and multi-sensory experiences.
Through a period of experimentation, I will test how sound, moving image, spatial design, and digital layering can work alongside my existing visual language. I am particularly interested in using augmented reality to place subtle emotional interventions within everyday environments, and in exploring how immersive spaces can shift in response to movement or interaction.
