You’re An Animal

You’re An Animal

Exploring Digital Animals invites audiences into a rich sensory world, bringing to life a wry and imaginative collection of short stories about mini-beasts and critters.

This work will playfully reflect our animal instincts and spark fresh approaches to performance-making through inventive, light-hearted, engaging and accessible encounters.

Aims of the project

Through exploration of animal characters (mini-beasts, rodents, insects and small animals) we will extract such joy, fun and absurdity through with the interactivity of each of the animals, to find ways that technology and immersive devises can help to facilitate storytelling. This project will provide opportunities to recognise and engage with our animal selves.

During lockdown I took part in a digital residency working with Neverthere Festival. In this we were developed Live Performance on Zoom and Mozilla Hubs. This opened my mind to the enormous wealth of opportunities that could come from working with digital technology. Not least of all, accessibility. I am neurodivergent and for me it is far less anxiety-inducing to access and experience performance in ways I can explore either at home, or in small doses, and I can find it hard on a social level and in terms of being physically overwhelmed by sensations such as loud sounds, to sometimes sit for long periods in a theatre space.

I will be workshopping ideas, exploring a wealth of questions, and utilising technology to extend the reach and impact of performers, to create work that could be easily shared or transported, reaching new and wider audiences.
