Animation within live environments

Animation within live environments

Can augmented reality or responsive environments be used to create real time analog style handdrawn animation within live environments?

The project will allow me to research what immersive technologies can be used in order to create 2D hand drawn animation within live environments. I want to learn about the different immersive technologies available, particularly focusing on augmented reality, as a way of incorporating live animation into live performance and if this is even possible.

Aims of the project

I will explore how traditional and analogue animation techniques can be combined with current immersive technology and what effects this can create. I am interested in incorporating audience participation into the work, allowing audience members and other collaborators can use the technology themselves to create their own animation or add to the live animation.

I want to explore the themes of intergenerational trauma, and being stuck in a never-ending trauma loop, and how this technique can reflect these themes in new and exciting ways. Also using soundscapes to explore how communication can get lost or distorted. I will also explore the feasibility of using this technique in helping other people to process trauma, mental health issues or intergenerational trauma, through the use of workshops and collaborative performances.
