The Burning Ballgown is an augmented reality experiment to learn what is possible with phone/browser based AR when tracking moving objects, and to investigate ways to encourage audiences to engage with AR work.
The project proposes to create a prototype "burning ballgown" worn by a street performer in public space. When viewed with browser based augmented reality, the ballgown appears to be in flames.

Aims of the project
I will investigate and learn the tools and conditions required to make a prototype AR experience for public space, laying the ground work for a future project developing the same concept and technology.
Meet the artist
Mike Pony

Mike Pony is a Manchester based freelance producer, programmer, curator and artist. He is known for his work developing commissions, projects, festivals and events which collide performance, music, immersive arts and digital installation.
Mike is artistic and executive director of Submerge, a commissioning and producing organisation who presented Submerge Festival in Bristol and Manchester between 2016 and 2022. Submerge is a resident of Pervasive Media Studio, Watershed Bristol. Mike is a freelance as an artist; and a producer for Factory International. He formerly ran event brands Horseplay and Eat Sleep Drag Repeat.
