Exploring human and empathic engagement in immersive technologies
Exploring human and empathic engagement in immersive technologies
I will be researching ways immersive technologies can facilitate human and empathic audience engagement. I will be building on my previous audio visual work, exploring how spatial audio could be used to engage audiences more deeply.

Aims of the project
Collaboration and ethical engagement are central to my process. I strive to create work that not only arises from site-specific locations but is also socially conscious, encouraging reflection on our relationships to place, culture, and community.
Whether working within urban landscapes or remote rural settings, I seek to create spaces for active listening, dialogue, and renewed understanding.
I will be researching ways immersive technologies facilitate human and empathic audience engagement. I will be building on my previous audio visual work, exploring how both visual technology and spatial audio could be used to engage audiences more deeply.
I see the creative potential of immersive technology to provide new ways for us to experience and communicate various aspects of our humanity and well being. However, I feel that the technology is often overt and the focus is drawn to the physical interface and gamification behaviour.
Through the Explore grant I hope to:
- Explore ways artists are currently using immersive technology, in particular to creating emotional and body engagement
- Experience more immersive technologies, comparing artistic and commercial options
- Identify and engage with potential collaborators
- Attend workshops aimed at artists using voice or spatial audio
