Algorithmic Cinema

Algorithmic Cinema

This project aims to simulate algorithmic environments as part of a responsive cinematic experience.

Algorithmic Cinema is an immersive moving-image installation that explores how algorithmic systems can become the driver of a cinematic experience. Developed in TouchDesigner, the project combines live-action film with real-time interaction, allowing the installation to respond dynamically to the presence and movement of its audience.

Rather than presenting a fixed sequence of images, the work generates a responsive cinematic environment in which viewers influence how moving images are revealed and experienced. Drawing on motion tracking, sensor-based interaction and generative systems, each encounter produces a unique relationship between audience, image, and machine.

The project investigates how the mechanics of algorithmic recommendation systems might be translated into physical space, transforming passive spectators into active participants. By reimagining the logic of personalised media feeds as an immersive installation, Algorithmic Cinema explores how computational systems shape attention, perception, and becoming through the experience of moving images.
