Green Dark
A research project exploring moonlight landscapes through 360° moving image and spatial audio, building on the award-winning photographic and installation work Green Dark.
This iteration uses moonlight photographs and animation to create 360° imagery of the Elan Valley, an International Dark Sky Park in Mid Wales. Spatial audio, including location recordings, creates a layered sensory experience. The research considers how image and sound together can heighten attention to landscape.

Aims of the project
This project builds on my award-winning Green Dark photographic series and my 21-screen video installation made from the series. It uses immersive technology to explore presence, attention and human connection to nature, and how these experiences might deepen our awareness of the natural world in the context of the climate crisis.

Zillah Bowes

Zillah Bowes is a filmmaker and multi-disciplinary artist working across film, photography, poetry and installation. Her work frequently explores the relationship between the individual and the natural environment. She has received the British Journal of Photography International Photography Award, Museum Wales Purchase Prize, Zealous: Amplify Environment and Aesthetica York Minster New Talent Award. She was awarded the Future Wales Fellowship (2023-25) and commissioned by the Welsh Parliament. Her work is held in collections including Museum Wales and the Welsh Parliament, and has been featured in The Guardian, Aesthetica Magazine, It’s Nice That, NOWNESS, BBC and Disney+.
