Hidden Realities
Hidden Realities
Exploring the potential for new art works that merge everyday perception with immersive technologies to reveal typically hidden layers of reality.
I am a visual artist based in London, UK, working across a range of media including sculpture, installation, performance and moving image. My original studies in architecture have had a lasting impact on my art practice, embedding queries of material and spatial perception deep into my work.
Through research and experimentation my works attempt to understand how we arrived at our current perception of the physical world and how far our perception is from what we call reality.
Within previous works I have explored the slippages that occur between perception and reality through the consideration of typically overseen phenomena, such as the weight of air, the turning of the earth, electromagnetic energy and cosmic rays.
However, to date, I have not had the opportunity to explore the potential of immersive technologies. I therefore plan to research the possibilities for new works that merge everyday perception with immersive technologies to reveal typically hidden layers of reality.

Aims of the Project
With the assistance of ‘Explore’ funding the project ‘Hidden Realities’ will consider the ways in which immersive technologies can reveal typically invisible layers of the world we inhabit.
Our perception of time and space is largely based on the processing of information within very discrete bandwidths, such as visible light at 400-700nm and sound waves 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz, however this is a very narrow slice of reality.
Through research and experimentation this project will consider ways in which new technologies can explore, enhance and question our perception of reality.
