Good Enough: Multisensory Queer Storytelling in Scotland.
A tech-light, tabletop storybox experience blending a handcrafted object with smartphone audio and Augmented Reality.
Good Enough is an immersive, portable storybox designed for two people at a time. Inside a handmade box are hidden compartments, handwritten messages and miniature dioramas; alongside them, a smartphone becomes narrator, theatre screen and viewfinder for AR characters. Together, these layers create a 15-minute journey that can travel easily into rural spaces bringing LGBTQ+ stories to audiences through both touch and technology.
Experiment
£20,000
Co-created with older gay, bi and queer men, it explores shame, resilience and ageing through intimate, tactile discovery and story-led movement.
Aims of the project
Made by NOCTURN, the project builds on a proven prototype originally funded by Arts Council England. This next phase focuses on co-creation: working with community participants to shape the content and movement language of the piece, and testing how participant movement can be transformed into characters and integrated into the storybox experience.
Across workshops and R&D sessions, Good Enough explores how technology can sit quietly — almost invisibly — supporting connection rather than spectacle. The aim is a richly human encounter: a small-scale, story-led experience where lived voices and crafted objects hold the weight of the narrative, and digital layers deepen what’s already present.
