Immersive Storyboarding for Animation Futures
Immersive Storyboarding for Animation Futures
A practice-led exploration of how hand-drawn storyboarding can evolve within immersive AR and VR environments, rethinking how animated narratives are developed, structured and experienced.
Immersive Storyboarding for Animation Futures is a research-led project exploring how traditional storyboarding techniques can operate within immersive technologies such as AR and VR. Rooted in hand-drawn animation practice, the project investigates how spatial environments reshape composition, pacing and audience perspective.

As a storyboard-focused animator, I want to test how drawing, composition and sequential storytelling function inside AR and VR spaces.
Aims of the project
This exploration aims to bridge analogue draftsmanship and emerging technology, developing new tools and approaches that expand the possibilities of animation pre-production and immersive storytelling.
Working through hands-on experimentation, mentorship and critical research, the project focuses on testing immersive workflows rather than producing a finished outcome. By sketching and sequencing inside digital space, I will examine how narrative structure shifts when stories are experienced spatially rather than on a flat screen or page.
