Intercept: Cornwall’s Hidden History
An augmented reality journey along Cornwall’s coast reveals the hidden infrastructure of global surveillance — from early wireless espionage to Cold War listening posts.
Through ghostly transmissions and digital traces layered onto the landscape, audiences uncover stories of secrecy, technology and power.
Intercept is an immersive augmented reality project uncovering Cornwall’s little-known role in the global history of surveillance and communications. From the world’s first wireless hack in 1903 to Cold War listening posts hidden along the coast, the project reveals how this remote landscape became a quiet frontier of signals, secrecy and technological experimentation.

Aims of the project
Using augmented reality and spatial audio, the project will prototype a site-specific experience where audiences encounter ghostly transmissions, lost infrastructure and hidden stories embedded in the landscape.
By layering digital traces onto real locations, Intercept explores how immersive technologies can bring overlooked histories to life and invite audiences to reflect on the legacy of surveillance today.
