Photo//Synthesis

A multi-sensory space where sound, image, and Nature collide. We’ve created a calming immersive environment from field recordings, 3D plant scans, and responsive visuals where the audience can reflect on their relationship with the natural world. It’s part installation, part meditation with Nature as collaborator/artist.

We will be using spatial audio, multi-projector/multi-LED wall/ dome setups and body tracking to enable audiences to take part in animating the environments; they become the invisible forces of nature - gravity, wind and turbulence and breathe life back into the scene through their movements.

Experiment

£20,000

Aims of the project

The funding allows us to expand on the work we have prototyped – enabling us to continue to develop a process of scanning organic forms, in particular to travel to and highlight crucial areas of conservation work using our methods to capture the visual and sonic elements of these landscapes. We will be doing this work over spring, summer and autumn, enabling us to reflect the passing seasons.. It will also allow us to continue to develop the workflow of processing these captured environments and to further tweak and enhance how our audience is able to interact with them.

Spatial audio will allow the audience to become fully nestled inside the environments that were captured spatially, whilst surrounding visuals that can be reconfigured depending on the space, embrace the viewers from multiple angles, giving the participants an embrace from nature. Body tracking of participants will control the sound and visual aspects of the piece, as with the existing work facilitated by Arthouse Jersey.

We would be testing with audiences multiple times at events throughout the year, culminating in another end of year that presents the artwork we have produced.
