Regina Caeli

Regina Caeli

Regina Caeli is a dance meditation/mediation of a life lived together; framed by funeral rituals, a dodgy children’s choir and the music of Eric Carmen.

A central component to Regina Caeli is the sculpting of audience connections and expectations through sound. Using spatial audio technology, the work will feature three-dimensional soundscapes.

The first will be a chorus of children singing the repetitions, repeats and melodies of All by Myself by Eric Carmen, Can't Get You Out of My Head by Kylie Minogue and Dear Lord and Father of Mankind, a popular hymn by Garrett Horrder.

The second is an exploration of the ethereal harmony produced by the movements of Heavenly objects. Why have humans historically associated patterns of vibrating air molecules into euphoric joy or the Fear of God? This will be represented via an audio abstract from a Pilgrimage taken by artist Lucy Gaizely to the Camino de Santiago, Portugal. This audio journey will couple a visual environment inspired by iconic festivities connected to venerable rites.

Regina Caeli will transfix an audience in close proximity, being both confronted and comforted by an unexpected voyeurism.

Aims of the Project

Immersive Arts have enabled 21Common to further foster the development of ideas and conceptualization for the ambitions of its experiential projects.

Immersive Arts will provide invaluable expertise and resource for 21Common to realise sensory engagement through multimedia technologies such as spatial audio, virtual production, virtual reality and extended reality. All things they have attempted at small scale but with support could be fully produced.
