Algorithmic Cinema
This project aims to simulate algorithmic systems as part of a responsive cinematic experience.
We are prototyping an immersive video installation that mirrors the logic of social media recommender systems. Experimenting with motion tracking, machine learning, proximity sensors, and live-action film, audiences will encounter cinematic fragments that respond to their movements, echoing the attention-driven logic of platforms like Instagram. The work examines how algorithmic feeds produce new forms of cinematic experience, inviting participants to feel how algorithmic feeds shape everyday life, where entertainment and ideology blur into one continuous environment.

Dian Joy is a British-Nigerian interdisciplinary artist and filmmaker based in London. Working across video, installation, and extended reality, Joy’s practice explores the entanglement of biological and technological systems through a speculative, research-driven approach. Their work critically engages with the ever-evolving terrain of selfhood in the digital era, frequently investigating how the machinic and the embodied intersect within contemporary culture. Bridging theory and praxis, at the core of Joy’s inquiry is an exploration of desire as a subjectivity-shaping force in a world increasingly governed by algorithmically charged media. Through this lens, Joy examines the affective and material dimensions of otherness and power. Never indebted to a darkening horizon, their installations and moving image works cultivate spaces for collective reflection, asking how we indeed make sense amid the ideological forces that shape contemporary life.

Henrique Lázaro is an artist, creative technologist, and game designer. Its practice orbits epistemological questions, often playing with norms established by the legacy of western enlightenment by embracing fluidity of agents, species, and belief systems, and meandering in their shifting meanings. Laz is designing an attention recognition system driving the algorithmic film sequence.
